Deploying VSWarehouse 3 With Ease

· Gabe Rudy · About Golden Helix, VSWarehouse

Managing genomic workflows at scale has always required a bit of IT expertise. The reality is, Next Generation Sequencing data is quite large and requires substantial compute resources to process. Clinical labs must carefully plan how to scale their IT resources to match their genomic testing workloads. Some labs prefer to operate fully “cloud native,” while others value the control and security offered by on-premises infrastructure. VSWarehouse 3 supports both deployment strategies, and we’ve made significant efforts to simplify the deployment process.

In this post, we’ll highlight the ease of setting up VSWarehouse 3 on the cloud using our automated Terraform scripts and intuitive management console. We’ll also discuss our streamlined on-premises installation, specifically designed for minimal IT overhead. Whether your preference is cloud-based or local deployment, managing VSWarehouse 3 is straightforward and accessible.

Cloud Deployment Made Easy

You don’t need to be a cloud expert or hire cloud experts to deploy VSWarehouse 3! If you have set up local servers, you will have no problem deploying VSWarehouse 3 to AWS or Azure. Upon implementation, we will provide your team with step-by-step guides and automate the majority of the work with configurable scripts.

As a result, you will have a fully configured cloud server, with public and private subnets, DNS and SSL configured, and security and email services configured to match your needs.

Benefits include:

  • Adapts to cloud infrastructure, allowing your team to scale up to meet bursty workloads.
  • Automatically spins up and down VMs to process tasks and run compute-intensive applications through the pre-configured VSWarehouse 3 server.
  • Provides a straightforward web-based admin interface for monitoring and management—no SSH access required.
  • Integrates seamlessly with scalable cloud storage options like AWS S3 and Azure Blob, ensuring your data storage expands automatically and cost-effectively.

The admin center on your VSWarehouse 3 server provides full transparency on the resources and workflow of your deployed server. You can deep dive into service logs, monitor processes or launch an admin console where you can modify server configuration files or run interactive commands to upgrade or review server processes.

On-Premises Deployment Simplified

Deploying VSWarehouse 3 on-premises is straightforward, with minimal prerequisites. We’ve streamlined the installation process into a single, guided script, ensuring quick setup and ease of use.

SSL certificates can be configured by providing your existing SSL keys or by generating self-signed certificates, which are especially useful for internal or private network deployments. Our detailed documentation includes instructions for generating these self-signed certificates and other tips for common install scenarios.

Post-Deployment: Managing Your Server

After deployment, managing VSWarehouse 3 remains straightforward. Our intuitive admin console interface enables easy monitoring of server usage, scheduling of regular reboots, and seamless upgrades. The admin console ensures server reliability and optimal performance without requiring significant technical overhead or direct server access.

You can set up the time that the server will do a maintenance reboot, along with a lockout period so that no users start new sessions that may still be active during the reboot time.

VSWarehouse 3 is designed to simplify, secure, and scale genomic workflows for clinical labs of any size. By offering flexible deployment options and intuitive management tools, we help labs leverage advanced cloud capabilities without extensive cloud management expertise.
